Pawn Shop Live at the Golden Nugget is a Reality Smash

Photos by Nikki Artale

Downtown Las Vegas at the Golden Nugget was the place to be on January 21, 2014 for the opening night of Pawn Shop Live. It is a parody of the smash reality show “Pawn Stars” that will now have a home in the Gordie Brown Showroom. Pawn Shop Live is based on the famous pawn shop “Gold & Silver Pawn” on Las Vegas Blvd. The show was created by Derek Stonebarger who wrote and produced Pawn Shop Live and co-written and directed by Troy Heard. Derek Stonebarger founded and launched the Vegas Independent Film Festival VIFF, which features indie films, student films and documentaries.

The parady is based on the true story of how it started when Rick Harrison as a young boy became ill and left school and began self-learning at home. The cast of characters are Slick Garrison played by Sean Critchfield, LiL Boss played by “Gus Langley, Chump played by
Garret Grant, Old Fart played by “Enoch Scott and Anita Bean both have  multiple roles in the show and showgirls played by Kady Heard and Sidney Kounkel.

The Harrison family endorses this Broadway style show and from the audience reaction, it is a solid hit. Thanks to the excellent writing by Derek Stonebarger and Troy Heard, the Pawn Shop Live will be a sought out show to see in Las Vegas, especially by the people that stand in the long line for hours to get into the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.  Thank you Derek and Troy for giving us a great show that I highly recommend everyone to see.

The Pawn Stars will drop by periodically and take part in the show, along with other guest stars. They were in the showroom for the debut of Pawn Shop Live and came onstage at the end of the show with Derek Stonebarger where they were given a standing ovation.
