Follow the Yellow Brick Road to See the Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is brought back to the big screen by Fathom Events, Classic Movies and Warner Brothers for a special showing in select U.S. theaters all over the country. The story is a timeless tale of a young girl and her journey on a yellow brick road to go see the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City. Dorothy is portrayed by a young 16 year old Judy Garland, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion and Jack Haley as the Tin Man. Frank Morgan played six roles, including the Wizard of Oz.

The film opened at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on August 15, 1939 and it captivated audiences then and it is still a treasured icon till this day. Nearly 45 million people watched a CBS network premiere in 1956 and that marked the beginning of an annual showing of the film.

And who could forget Margaret Hamilton as the Witch of the West and Billie Burke as Glinda the Good Witch. They were unforgettable characters, as were the lovable Munchkins.

The power and the magic of the film was switching from black and white to color, the close friendship Dorothy formed with The Lion who wanted courage, the Tin Man who wanted a heart and the Scarecrow who wanted a brain. The Wizard of Oz was going to grant them their wishes and Dorothy’s wish to go back home.

All Dorothy had to do was close her eyes, click her shoes and go home. There’s no place like home.

The Cowardly Lion costume recently sold at auction for more than $3 Million in New York City. The film received over five Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Song “Over the Rainbow.

I loved seeing the film on the big screen, as it was meant to be seen, and I saw things I didn’t see on the T.V. showings. I absolutely loved seeing The Wizard of Oz again and I highly recommend you go to a theater near you to experience this great masterpiece of what home truly means.

Venus Investigations Makes Each Case Personal

Lifestyles of Extra-ordinary People Living in Las Vegas
By
Nikki Artale & Victoria Alexander

What does it take to be a private investigator? A flashy car, a loud shirt and a trademark mustache like TV’s iconic tom Magnum? Or does our image of a “private eye” slant more towards Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer and Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe? Do you think the only way to catch a cheating spouse is by going on “Cheaters”?

Are you frustrated that your high school sweetheart is not on Facebook?

Experience and knowledge are the key elements in the investigative methods that include having access to vast databases in searching for missing persons, divorce and child custody records, workman’s compensation fraud and background checks.

And then there is the most common use of private investigators-cheating spouses. This specialty requires sophisticated surveillance techniques, training and equipment, along with undercover operations that provides the information that is needed in each individual case. The most important factors are discretion, confidentiality, and caring about the client.

To find out exactly what a private investigator does, we contacted Las Vegas private investigator, Venus Lovetere. Her business card reads “Specializing in Unusual & Difficult Cases”.

This brings us to premiere Las Vegas private investigator, Venus Lovetere.

We spent a recent afternoon at Venus’s office at 1900 E. Bonanza Road, at the law firm of xxxxxxxx. While unsure at first exactly what we really wanted, Venus vetted us thoroughly. (Did Venus uncover Victoria’s spending history and Nikki’s overburdened event calendar?) Venus told us we passed, so she was willing to answer all our questions. We came away thrilled to know Venus. The most significant opinion we agreed upon was that Venus cared about her clients and made each case a personal one.

Venus Investigations came to Las Vegas in 1992. Venus became a licensed private investigation in 1988. Venus began her “private eye” career working on high-profile cases as a member of famous P.I. Vinny Parco’s New York team. Venus started by answering Parco’s phones and quickly realized she had a talent for complex finance-based investigations. Venus became a licensed private detective in 1988.

Venus presents a very likable demeanor and a disarming friendliness. People like talking to her which is a skill a private investigator must have to be s successful. Acquiring information is what investigators do and Venus knows the words, phrases and tone of voice needed to delve deeper to secure the information her clients want. There is more to Venus’s work than having the ability to search databases.

Venus talked to us about the cases that involve surveillance. “Wild Card Nikki jumped in “I want to go with you on the next one. To take photos”.

Facebook may have 500 million users, but not the girl you met on the train to New York in 1959. People finder websites need a full name and city. The websites that offer these services use outdated information and usually require a monthly fee that is often impossible to stop.  There are many websites devoted to unhappy users complaining about these companies.

The only option left is Venus. Her fee is modest and she will dedicate 3 weeks to the search. Venus confided that it rarely takes that long using her search techniques. She will know within days where your long-lost college roommate is and other helpful information.

Nikki’s account:

Let’s start our story on what it takes to be a private investigator or a private eye as they are called. Experience and knowledge are the key elements in the investigative methods that include vast databases in searching for missing persons, divorce and child custody, workman’s compensation fraud, background checks, infidelities and more. Surveillance experience and equipment, along with undercover operations will provide the information that is needed in each individual case. The most important factor is being discreet, confidential and caring about the client.

This brings us to private investigator Venus Lovetere who cares about her clients and makes each case a personal one. No case is too small or too big. I immediately liked Venus when we met in her office and upon discovering that we both were from New Jersey we became instant friends.

Venus is an expert in knowing how to find someone and she told us about an 86 year old man who had recently been widowed and wanted to find his sweetheart again. Venus found the woman and gave her client a thorough report and a recent photograph of her. Unfortunately she is married and not available for a romance with him. Another case was of a woman who thought her husband was cheating with another woman and when Venus investigated she found that he was cheating with a man and the wife was relieved that he wasn’t cheating with another woman.

Venus works with lawyers, bail bond companies and employers. It is common for employers to hire a private investigator to do a background check on a prospective employee. Venus is an expert at skip tracing-finding a person who has left an outstanding debt. This type of investigation often requires Venus to “gumshoe”-visit former addresses, interview neighbors and generally track a person’s physical “footprint” using their known history.

Primary importance for anyone thinking about hiring the services of a private investigator is, understandably, confidentiality. Venus assured us that even an inquiry is treated with confidentiality.

If you have a problem or a situation that you cannot solve yourself, Venus Investigations will tackle it.  www.venusinvestigations.vegas

Jay White - Our Vegas Diamond is Back Home in Las Vegas

Photos by Nikki Artale

It was exciting to see Jay White’s Christmas Show once again on December 6, 2014 at the Suncoast Hotel in Las Vegas. Jay was back in town to celebrate the holidays before leaving on his busy schedule for the next couple of months. After playing New Year’s Eve in Reno with King Errisson, Neil Diamond’s percussionist, Jay prepared for his 2015 tours. The Christmas show was magical and the audience made themselves a part of the show as they sang along with Jay when he pointed the microphone towards them.  As Jay gets older he looks more and more like Neil Diamond and his voice and mannerisms are so perfect, you could close your eyes and hear Neil Diamond. www.AmericasDiamondLive.com

Jay has been doing the Neil Diamond tribute show for over 30 years and many of his band players have performed with him for many of those years. He is proud to have his son Neil White (Bass guitar) playing in the band also. Neil has released a new album, showing his many talents and he soon will be starting his 2015 US Tour.
Neil White

Jay White and his band will continue to play Casinos, Corporate and Performing Arts Theaters around the states in Wisconsin and the Skagit Casino in Washington State. Next month will find them in Newfoundland Canada and then on to Australia and Chile South America. Everyone will be thrilled and excited to see and hear Jay White because he is the next best thing to Neil Diamond. Neil Diamond once told Jay White “Keep singing so I can stay home and relax”. Neil sent Jay two of his jackets, one a black sequined and one a silver glitter sequined that he wears in the show. How exciting is that?

Jay recently played with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and is looking forward to some additional dates with them here in the US. The Grammy award winning Philharmonic Orchestra provides artistic excellence that enriches the quality of life through live music and Jay White fits right in there for his spectacular performances.

His second love is hockey and it all started when he was eight years old and his dream was to make it to the NHL one day but only got as far as two pre-season games with the IHL Kalamazoo Wings. Over the last 10 years, he not only played in several professional NHL Alumni games with some of hockey’s greatest players, but from 2004-09 (at age 50 plus) he was the Emergency backup Goalie for ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers (ages 18-32).  Last month in his home town of Detroit he was on the ice at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team, playing goalie in a game with the Red Wings Alumni team that ended in a tie. Jay said it was a real thrill competing with players that he admired and watched on TV. He stays in shape by hitting the gym and the ice three times a week, staying in top form so he can perform both on the stage and on the ice.

The goalie mask he wears is custom painted, as are all goalie masks, and it shows his passions. The important things that are painted on his goalie mask are some Las Vegas Hotels that include the Riviera where he starred for many years, the Neil Diamond pose from The Jazz Singer and the words “Vegas Diamond” painted on the chin. He truly is our Vegas Diamond and Las Vegas is so proud of him.

And as true to form Jay meets his fans and friends in the lobby after the show and stays there until all the greetings and pictures are taken. Thank you Jay, my friend for all the joy you bring to everyone’s life with your beautiful show. Good times never seemed so good.

This was the best house party I have ever attended and upon entering Cindy’s beautiful, fabulous home and being greeting by the lady in the table, surrounded by champagne glasses full of bubbly to Mikey the Monkey, I had the time of my life. I enjoyed seeing Tempest Storm at the party and she was looking beautiful as always.

NiteKings Inducted into the Entertainment Consumers Exchange Hall of Fame.

Photos by Nikki Artale
For 50 years the NiteKings have kept the Doo Wop music alive and they are still going strong. On November 17, 2014 the group was inducted into the entertainment Consumer’s Exchange Hall of Fame and they celebrated that evening at Rhythms Kitchen in Las Vegas. It was a huge turnout of friends, family and fans that came out to honor the Nitekings. www.nitekings.com
Tony Cedola, Skip Petronzio, Victor Moea, Eddie B, Angelo Mastreio, Red Michaels, Chris Jacobs and John Falbo are the current NiteKings who entertain and mesmerize the fans that come out to see them perform. Rich Perez is the founder of the NiteKings, and fills in periodically and concentrates on managing the group, along with Skip Petronzio who co-produces the show with Rich Perez.

Rich was born in Pontiac, Michigan and had a large family consisting of six sisters, one brother and a mother and father who loved all of them. His father played the saxophone and those musical notes have remained with him for decades and that was the foundation of his musical career. Their lives were filled with music as they grew up. His life story is beautifully written in detail by Arlene Krieger, as narrated by Rich Perez in “The NiteKings a Legendary Band”. I encourage everyone to read this heartwarming, loving story of the wonderful Rich Perez. Rich is an amazing talented man and people love to be around him. He will be happy to personally autograph his book at his gigs at the Bourban Street Cabaret at The Orleans and at Sam’s Town.

Arlene Krieger has recently written books on Tony Sacca Las Vegas Ambassador of Entertainment and a book on Little Anthony. The books can be purchased on www.amazon.com

The NiteKings have appeared in many major Las Vegas Casino’s and are currently playing at Sam’s Town every Sunday 7:00-11:00 pm and at The Orleans on Wednesdays 4:00-8:00 pm. I went to see them at The Orleans and not only did the Doo Wop sound sweet, their outfits were beautifully tailored and they were the picture of perfection.           Video         http://youtu.be/ytcelP3QRc0

The showroom was filled with people dancing and you could see the nostalgic reminiscing of the audience as the soulful singing of the NiteKings filled the Casino showroom. The music brings back many good memories of the past.
